The Counseling Compact
The Counseling Compact is an interstate compact that allows licensed counselors to apply for the privilege to practice in additional US states without having to obtain licensure in each state. The Counseling Compact is still in the process of being implemented by the Compact Commission. Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, and Ohio are the first states to offer the privilege to practice (last updated on 6/14/2026).
Providers can apply for the privilege to practice in each of these states individually. Providers who have obtained privileges will be listed on those states pages as having “Counseling Compact privilege” with their privilege number for each state.
